Nigg Skills Academy

How do I gain entry?

If you wish to gain entry into Nigg Skills Academy to complete a Modern Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding, you will require to find an employer who is prepared to offer you a paid, full time contract of employment. any employer can be considered, but details of those utilising the services of Nigg Skills Academy can be found within this website.

.Another option, could be in coming to the academy, where you would complete a 16 week intensive course (an SVQ Performing Engineering Operations level 2 and a National Certificate with “core skills”) in Fabrication and Welding, delivered as part of our partnered contracted educational work with The North Highland College. In most cases bursaries are paid to candidates

If you wish to progress advanced courses in Fabrication, Pipe Fitting or progress welding training and coding various funding schemes maybe available to fund your training.

Finally, if you are long term unemployed, there is a way, through our relationship with Job Centre Plus, of gaining access to the academy to train in becoming a coded welder. Once you have the welder coding(s), Job Centre Plus would try and find you work. This is a special arrangement with Job Centre Plus and those selected would not lose their benefits as they are being trained within the academy. You should approach your local Job Centre Plus to find the details on this or contact Laura Macmillan on 01862 852440.
