Nigg Skills Academy

Class of January 2018

The NSA  class of January 2018 where these trainees are completing their SVQ, level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations and their National Certificate in Fabrication and welding in their 16 weeks at Nigg Skills Academy. 24 students started on 15 January and the image shows them with the instructors outside the main academy building. Tommy Macdonald, the Senior Instructor commented, “this 16 week course is proving very popular and directly meets the needs of those wishing to get into fabrication and welding. We are unique in our delivery in respect of us being on an industrial site and work to the same patterns as those working within industry. Employers like the concept and feel they are very much work ready in leaving us.” Once completing the course the students have the option of continuing their education, potentially coming back into the academy to complete some welder codings and/or employers taking them on within an accelerated apprenticeship to continue their education and eventually gaining their chosen trade.
