Training providers renew partnership contract supporting energy and engineering careers
Nigg Skills Academy and UHI North Highland have signed a new three-year partnership agreement to continue to deliver engineering, fabrication, and welding courses to the Easter Ross region.
From our training workshop at Nigg Energy Park, students complete the SVQ Level 2 Welding and Fabrication Engineering Practice and NC Engineering Systems in just 16 weeks. On completion, students are work-ready for any employment or apprenticeship opportunities within the engineering and fabrication industry.
Alistair Kennedy, Chairman of Nigg Skills Academy said, “Nigg Skills Academy is a not-for-profit company and opened in March 2012 to address the shortages in the key skills of fabricating and welding within the energy industry.
These shortages continue to this day and these courses continue to thrive offering people the opportunity to gain important and meaningful qualifications within the wider energy industry. We have developed an excellent working relationship with UHI North Highland and were delighted to continue our relationship with the signing of this contract.”
The partnership renewal demonstrates the training provider’s commitment to supporting the demands of the offshore renewables industry in the highlands and beyond. Principal and chief executive of UHI North Highland, Debbie Murray, said, “I am delighted to continue this strategically important partnership with Nigg Skills Academy which allows us to support intensive engineering-based programmes in the heart of Easter Ross. Whilst the job market is buoyant the need for upskilling and reskilling to meet the needs of industry is ever evident.”
Both organisations are delighted to see a full cohort of students on the September intake and are welcoming applications for the next course starting in January.
