Funding & Employment Support with DWP

Helping you get a foot in the door

Nigg Skills Academy has a unique relationship with Job Centre Plus and the Department for Work and Pensions. With Laura McMillan seconded to the academy since we opened our doors in 2012, we are

Laura can arrange practical, hands-on work experience; support recruitment for our students and trainees; provide guidance on CVs and job interviews; and help complete funding applications for individuals.

Laura says: “There are very few individuals that do not find work on completion of the course. Part of my role is to support individuals with completing CVs, and matching individuals with employers depending on their ability and chosen career.”

We also have the ability to support unemployed welders to gain Lloyds Register welder codings to provide them with appropriate certification to get into work, where full funding could be available.

Funding Support for Trainees

We firmly believe that everyone who wants to enter the engineering industry should be able to, regardless of their financial or social background.

That’s why we facilitate access to a range of funding options, enabling trainees and employers to reduce the costs associated with learning at the academy.

Providing you meet certain requirements, your course fees can be covered by available funding. You can also apply for a bursary which is means-tested on your household income, and subject to evidence including paperwork like P60s.

We also operate a free minibus service, with various pick-up points along the A9 from Inverness to Nigg.
