When did you join Nigg Skills Academy?
Since the opening of the facility in 2012.
What is your background?
I have been senior branch manager with NWS Ltd, the finance arm of the Bank of Scotland. Following this, I worked as head of investment for Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (formerly part of Highlands & Islands Enterprise) before joining Ross County Football Club as its chief executive.
While still involved with Ross County, I moved to a role as communications director at Global Energy Group and in 2012, took up the role of chairman of Nigg Skills Academy.
I enjoy helping people get on in life and feel Nigg Skills Academy gives great opportunities for people to develop new skills, gain meaningful qualifications and move into well paid work.
What advice would you give to someone starting a career in the energy & engineering sector?
There are many different opportunities in the energy and engineering industries that can provide you with a really enjoyable and well-paid career for life.
Our practical courses are a great introduction to anyone finding out which elements they might enjoy, and then moving on to an apprenticeship or job opportunity in the many exciting industries that are innovating here in the Highlands.
